TAM V 1018

This inscription was written on the base of a statue for an athlete which was sent as ambassador to the emperor by his home town around 230 AD. The city wanted permission to hold ‘sacred games’, these are games with the highest statute.

For G. Perelius Aurelius Alexander, periodos-winner, who has led an embassy to our invincible emperor Caesar M. Aur. Antininus pius felix Augustus for his beloved home town and who has obtained from the imperial fortune sacred games with the right to a triumphal entry, Augusteian, iso-Pythian and for the whole world.
