Pausanias VI 21, 2

The gymnasion and the palaistra are only briefly mentioned by Pausanias.

In the gymnasion at Olympia the trainings for the pentathletes and the runners take place. There is constructed in open air a stone platform and on that platform originally a war trophy of a victory over the Arkadians was set up. On the left of the entrance of the gymnasion there is another smaller enclosure. There are the wrestling-rings for the athletes. The rooms of the athletes adjoin the wall of the east colonnade of the gymnasion and are facing the south-west.
