Ostrakon with Kallias' name

These sherds were found on the market of Athens. They carry the words "Kallias, son of Didymias". These sherds represent votes of Athenian citizens, who thought that Kallias should be banished. On the second sherd Kallias' name is painted, and not scratched as usual. Apparently there was an orchestrated campaign against Kallias: his opponents distributed sherds that were painted in advance to illiterate Athenians.
